Is Healing All in the Mind or Something More?

By Rosemary Graham

Healing seems to be an alien word to the average man. By this I mean that if one mentions healing as an act rather than something or someone healing, people usually avert their eyes in embarrassment. Why? I think this is because it’s seen as something whacky, beyond the understanding of most people in everyday life. It is what women were put on the stake for in ancient times.

Maybe I would have reacted in the same way had it not been for certain experiences. The initial one was when I was fortunate enough to be introduced to someone who could help me with the challenges of an ADHD daughter, back in the seventies, when it was a little known term for Hyperactivity. On my unaccompanied initial visit, which was basically to test the woman out, my new contact was, much to my amazement, able to see me with inner eyes. She informed me of an inner health issue I knew I had, and for which I was awaiting treatment, had but not mentioned. This was done by scanning my energy field. Obviously I was impressed but the condition was picked up from genuine concern about my own health and not from ego or because my money was required.

I was given healing, advise and food supplements suggested. I trusted her then to take my daughter for a consultation sensing that it would be beneficial which it proved to be. She was prescribed minerals and vitamins lacking in her system. Thus began my early foray into healing and natural remedies.

Many years later, I had moved away from the area where the healer lived. I came across Reiki. After receiving Reiki healing from another person, when I had a challenging immune system problem, my inner knowing was that I had to train in this healing method, the first of a few, and did so. It was like being plugged in or turned on as an electric light bulb. How wonderful it felt and so right. From here I went on to try out my new skill on friends and some family with impressive and unexpected results, all positive.

Now, many years later and continuous training in vibrational energy, it has become a focal point in my life. Being a doubting Thomas, someone who really needs to trust before accepting, I read many tones around the whole subject of health, healing and wellness and trained in various other modalities. I knew something worked but trying to track down the ‘how’ of this was not so easy. I had to be utterly convinced and to completely, or certainly as near as possible, understand. What an incredibly fascinating journey it has proved to be. Now, I might add, I consult my aged healing friend and initial introducer to the magical world which it is, not only as a friend but colleague. In some ways, I know that I have been able to advance beyond her knowledge.

Recently I have helped a teenage girl, who some months prior to her A level examinations, hit her head above the eye in the bathroom and became paralysed from head to foot. By the time I knew about her, she had been in hospital to little avail as nobody could find the key to helping her recover. When I did finally see her, she had the feeling back in most of the upper body but could not walk and barely moved her legs.

I worked with her using my own original taught techniques, but also adaptations and self-taught add-on skills. We worked together as a team. She listened, was open and communicated with me at a particular level. I used my new knowledge of energy enhancement and also NLP, EFT and Body Communication techniques.

Prior to the initial session she had no feeling in her legs whatsoever and could only swing herself on crutches for a short distance. A determined, intelligent young woman, she listened to me, used her own intuition and as we worked together with me leading, began to get more feeling in her body. After this one session she was able to walk without her crutches and with sticks as a replacement. The benefits of the second session gave her the ability to use one stick which was great. Finally she was able to walk unaided, a remarkable achievement. A further session was required to help eliminate a headache which had been around on and off for the duration of her plight. One short twenty minute session and it vanished. I don’t know who was the happier, my ‘patient’ or me.

The effects of healing may depend on certain requisites, the first of which is an openness and a willingness to change state or rid oneself of a problem. Where there is a resistance, lack of trust or a real willingness to get beyond a problem, it is harder. I once was asked by a well-meaning daughter, to work with her mother who had cancer. Intuitively I knew that she didn’t want to cooperate even though her daughter had a deep desire for my treatment to work. It will have on one level, but a blocked mind cannot really allow the healing energy into its system. It will have helped in her passing but did not save her life. Other factors come into this which I can write about again as it is not appropriate here.

I could write of many other positive effects of healing energy but will only mention a couple. The first of which was in helping an elderly Yoga classmate who had fallen on the golf course and had a pain in her upper arm. She asked me to help her and in moments the pain had completely diffused.

It isn’t just about mind over matter. Here is an example of why. A thin, petite daughter in law was in labour. I was concerned as my son is tall. Without telling her I sent healing immediately. She was in America and I was in England. A text message, to which I could not reply, came by a third party. I began immediately to send healing. I felt the vibrations reaching her, could tell she was in labour and worked with her all the way through. The result? An easy birth, with no stitches or expected complications, and of course, a perfect grand daughter.

People puzzle about distant healing without knowing or realising that everything is energy. I work in this way a great deal, as do many other healers and the benefits are incredible.

Can anyone become as healer? The answer is, ‘Yes,’ and some people have the ability without having to be attuned to the healing stream. I have met children who are able to heal intuitively. Maybe many of us or all of us are born with the ability but it withers and atrophies when the mind takes over, beliefs and set ways become the norm. You can always try to see if you have healing hands by placing them, with permission, on an area that requires healing such as a bruise, cut or a headache. You may be surprised by the results.
